My family moved to Monterey when I was fourteen. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. After college, I was married and spent ten years in
San Francisco, working as an engineer for six of them.
I began painting in 1990 (oil on canvas, figurative, expressionistic), and attended art classes at the College of Marin, San Francisco City College, and the San Francisco
Art Institute.
In 1997, I travelled to India for a month, without my husband, to attend my sister’s wedding. The trip turned out to be life altering. On my return, I made my own gouache paints from raw materials and painted a series of very detailed miniatures (after the Indian and Persian traditions) based on my feelings about my trip. I had a baby daughter (now 14).
In 2001 I moved back to Monterey, got divorced, and then started my own business doing decorative painting and faux finishes (still in business). For this work I use and experiment with a lot of raw materials (i.e. dry pigments and different kinds of binder, etc.). The recent slump in the economy and resulting slowdown in my business has given me space to explore and develop these new painting processes and bodies of work.
I currently live in New Monterey with my musician boyfriend, my daughter, and a big black cat named Mousey.
